When I chose to make the cape for this month’s #sewyourview I already had a look in mind. I knew that I wanted leather trimming and that I wanted some sort of tweed wool looking fabric. I ran across the fabric I used at one of my favorite places, Wherehouse Fabrics off of Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas, TX. As soon as I saw it I knew right then I wanted that for my cape. Does that happen to you where you either have a fabric in mind or see a fabric that you love and then nothing else can be in its place because you can’t see anything else?
I chose to add leather trim that I got from JoAnn Fabrics in their trim sections. Tip on sewing the trim – Open on glued edge and use that as a guide sort of like bias tape to put onto your garment. Since you have a glued end it is best to use some tearaway fabric that will help you sew it on your machine without getting the fabric stuck. I used good ol toilet tissue and it worked so good. I would sew and just pull away the tissue and it was that simple.
Pattern info: McCall Pattern Company M7477. I chose view E and omitted the pockets and I did not top stitch the front since I added the leather trim. I chose a grey lining to compliment the fabric.
